That's just brilliant guys. I'm planning on coming up in the spring so will have something else to see.Someone mentioned in a previous post that Buffalo Bill may have stayed at the Cardigan Arms. I have an old family photo album with a postcard type picture of the gentleman. I wonder whether my great grandfather collected it in person at the time? Annoyingly i have quite a lot of photos that are unlabelled. I've got 4 tiny photos (contact prints) of a city scene taken from what looks like a first floor window of a street procession. There are horse drawn floats with national emblems going through the streets. People in adjacent offices are sitting on first floor window ledges. It may be Leeds but I really don't know. From the clothing I would place it as Edwardian. I shall post them shortly if anyone is interested.

Cardiarms wrote: Where's that then? I'm new to this! Hi, Cardiarms,The aerial picture shows Greenwood and Batley's site c1948. North is roughly to the right. The line ran between the river and canal to the bridge to the Perseverance Foundry, which was off the map to the top right. A branch ran up a small embankment and over the canal to Greenbat's. The wider area between the river and canal became Yorkshire Chemicals, now flattened. Armley Road is top left.Does that help?

Ah got you! The area to the noth of the canal has been cleared and leveled for warhousing and currently cleared again so there's nothing there. On the south bank there's all sorts of stoneowrk but I wasn't looking hard by then, it being horizontal freezing sleet!
