I looked in yesterday afternoon and got an error that said the disk was full. I was actually quite surprised that it was back today It seems to happen every 5 or 6 months, suggests to me that management of monitoring the system by the Host is a little sparse perhaps - can you imagine the consequences if they were hosting an on-line store and that went down at this time of the year with no out of hours cover? It wouldn't surprise me to be honest. The council will pay England Agency to keep it running but there's no development policy and little monitoring which is why the disk fills up every now and then.I've been considering putting up an alternative for a while because of this very reason - it wouldn't surprise me if someone in the council saw that it was costing a bag of Yorkshire mixture a year to run without any particular return and decided to switch it off. Council data policies being what they are it would be a struggle to get the data from them too. If I've got some time over Christmas I'll see if I can scrape a copy of the posts. Does anyone know of another Leeds message board apart from the BBC ones and that isn't football related? I haven't come across one.

The BBC Leeds Message board was closed on 1st April with about a weeks notice. We thought it was an April fool but it wasn'tSomebody did spam us with a rival web site at some stage but it was far less active than this at the time (I looked then but haven't since).Ads and Reginald Perrin seem to know of another site (might be the above) but I don't know how specific it is to Leeds.

The BBC are supposed to be revamping the local sites to make them more news-oriented again, but it doesn't surprise me that they've pulled the message boards - they never seemed to be very busy and the insistence on moderation slowed it down and was one of those overheads that means it gets cut far too easily. I know that Sheffield has quite a good board for general history, it might be worth starting something like that.

Secret leeds is a fantastic wealth of information. The only trouble with it is it's all been allowed to go like a run away train. There's no admin or moderators. All the information is lost in rambling long threads. If the site was kept in check with some nip an tuck the amount of info would be excellent.

Google works better than the on-site search It's set me off thinking about a combined discussion board/wiki project again. I started one with a record label mailing list that I maintain but I just didn't have the time to look after it, and wikis do need to be looked after. Up to my eyeballs at the moment though.
