I've been in the West Riding Refreshment Rooms this evening in Dewsbury. 6/7 cask beers, draught cider, Belgian Beers, genuine continental lagers - the place was heaving. Caught the train home and thought about calling in at the Rock in Morley for an odd one - cask beer gone - loud music - hardly anyone in the place. Is it surprising given the economic climate that pubs are closing. They're taking the line of least resistance and serving cr@p to the punters and the punters can buy the same cr@p much cheaper at Morrisons (etc) what a surprise the pubs are closing.

I'd noticed this too - the frontage has all been repainted and the pub signs have been taken down. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing...

Been avidly reading the forums today, first time I've come across them and they're brilliant!!Just thought I'd make note on this thread as I've read some bits and bobs about The Fox & Newt on Burley Road...As of the end of this week its brewing again!! so hopefully good times are ahead....

Yes, I noticed that last night too at about 6.30. Mike at the Tarn has mentioned before that it's hardly open at the moment - there's a few takers for the quiz on Thursday nights and a decent handful on Saturday evenings but they never seem to have any cask ale so I don't bother hanging around. It's a far cry from when it was packed out at weekends a few years ago. Passed by the Tut n Shive this aft and it was closed and now has a "Pub To Let" sign outside.

There's been a "To Let" sign outside the Three Horseshoes in Otley since the unfortunate death of the last tennant. However, there was a removal van unloading outside yesterday evening.
