Down by the Weir at Kirkstall Abbey there's a house sandwiched between the edge of the weir and the goit. I'm assuming it was something to do with operating the sluices on the goit. Is this the case, anybody know any more about its history?

The eccentric old lady who ran it used to travel on the buses for a while but sadly, although I've no doubt she was the kindliest of souls, she really was in the most awful state of neglect and had various really nasty odours and infections everywhere - hands, face etc. and her clothes were indescribable.I can't remember who started the protest, bus staff or passengers or maybe both, but she was eventually banned from travelling. I can't say whether Leeds City Transport and West Yorkshire were involved as well - they probably were, but its very sad for "softies" like me to be concerned in it.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
