I was born here and have lived here most of my life (apart from 10 years in West Ardsley ) I'm quite happy being part of Leeds, but I know that I'm in a minority. Morley Town Council's ruling independent group's entire party policy can be summed up as "it's all Leeds's fault"

Sorry for not being 34 years out of date CNOSNI. I wasn't aware we were operating in a previous age!! Plus Leeds has grown organically since then not just swallowing up smaller surrounding towns. Rothwell, my home town, was "swallowed up" and I'm happy to be part of Leeds. some older folk still recken we would have been better off in Wakefield but never really have any real reason for that. The only drawback I can see is that we seem to have a few too many Rhinos fans instead of Hunslet, Cas, Fev and Wakey ones.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

Well it is really difficult to accurately compare population sizes if a particular citys boundaries have been grossly increased to take in surrounding towns and villages who have for centuries been independent. This was all done for admin and governance, and therefore to save money. If we were to say that Leeds had grown organically, which it has, then perhaps Manchester has grown organically and therefore should include in its border such places as the City of Salford and Oldham, which are at present merely in the County of Greater Manchester, and while we are at it lets scrap the county bit and make it all the City of Manchester. In fact lets go the whole hog and include parts of North West Cheshire.Either 34 or 334 years it doesnt change anything really, artificial changes to traditional boundaries are just that, artificial, maybe not officially but certainly historically.Humberside and Hull being a good example.Im quite happy for places like Rothwell,Otley and Morley to be associated with Leeds, but these places are historically independent from Leeds, and as a Yorkshireman i celebrate their independence and individual identity, which is all about what a Yorkshireman is.
