A long forgotten institution. We had a rare treat when my family made a very infrequent summer evening trek to The Melbourne and we kids were allowed to roam in the back garden while the grown ups had a couple of gills. Later, I recall my pal's Dad taking us in his van to The Bridgefield where we would stay sitting in the van with a packet of Cheese 'n' Onion and a bottle of Coke until he deigned to take us home. All gone now that kids are allowed in pubs. With which I disagree. But I loved our rare treats.

Yes, I must have spent hours in the Fox and Grapes car park, Pudsey, in the 60s!The only pub I was ever allowed in when I was little, was in the Lakes. It's now the Lowood Hotel, Windermere. I got a Coke and a plastic bag containing a Dairylea triangle, two Ritz biscuits, two small pickled onions, and a small wooden fork.

triangles w'ant even invented and a fork huh, what I wouldnt give for a fork, peas in vinegar were are pickled onions!!!

Or a glass of Cresta, the most unbelievably fizzy pop ever. "It'd frothy man".And Snaps were only 2p a bag.
