So.... lets fit all buses with bull bars and instruct the drivers to be a little less carefull when entering bus stops!!!!!!!!!!!! VERY tempting indeed, but sadly not worth all the "form filling" which would ensue. Mind you, a lot of the bus drivers do sometimes have the opportunity to hem the poachers in for a minute oir two, especially since Albion Street is a timing point . The long articulated buses on service 1 to Holt Park are very useful for this purpose as they can "enfold their prey" rather like a spider or an octupus can trap a victim.

They might have been there earlier but wasn't paying much attention on Monday and wasn't in Leeds at the back end of last week.It might be coincidence but on Tuesday nothing moved out of City Square for nearly 5 minutes. Maybe a double parked bus decanting/collecting passengers on Boar lane or the inability of traffic to turn right into Mill Hill due to traffic turning left and pedestrians on the crossing. Needless to say when my bus did eventually make Boar Lane there was also a queue of taxis baxk almost to Lower Basinghall Street (BHS)

An article in last night's "Evening Post" revealed the good news that several of these law breaking private hire blighters had been nabbed during a purge - the assortment of offences incuded (absolutely NO surprise) :-No taxi driving licence, and using someone else's,No insurance,No MOT, Defective tyres,Failing to answer bail for previous offences, etc etc.If ever an industry needed a really effective tightening up and penalties this one does - and the careless customers who, without legal pre-booking, get in "anything that pulls up" are not helping the situation at all.

Not Leeds, I know, but a colleague's car was side-swiped by an overtaking empty PH car in Liverpool, while he was stationary and indicating to turn right. Sure enough, we received a claim for whip-lash (whip-cash?) in the post for the driver and four imaginary passengers! Their statement even claimed that my colleague was speeding, which patently doesn't make sense (they would have to be going even faster!) We got onto the relevant taxi authorities, and the claim was dropped.

People might not if the black and whites didn't charge so much and the queues were not so long, and the cabs actually drove round and didn't just sit itn he ranks. £8 from Leeds Station to Kirstall Road, not even as far as the lights. That doesn't sound right. Arrow are possibly the only company who can drive to the door. Admittedly I haven't used the airport this year but I think other taxi services have to use the outside lane. I'm sure there would have been an outcry in my area, not least from SJK.

Simon, to clarify. Yes other firms can drop off and pick up at the airport but they can't use the taxi ranks. So in terms of pick ups this places the Black and Whites in the same posistion as the private hire in that they effectively have to be pre-booked unless they hit lucky in being flagged down at the same time as a drop-off. As Private Hire are less expensive then I doubt many black and whites will be pre-booked.Therefore all these black and whites have moved to a different patch presumably the vast majority, if not all, Leeds City Centre.

Every other city I have spent time in I have been able to flag downa black cab. Not once have I ever done htis in Leeds and it's not for want of trying. They just head strasight for the train station. Plus a proper hackney carriage was a rare sight in Leeds up until 10 years ago they were just white saloon cars with black bonnets and boots. They should be minimum 5 seaters (not inc driver) to be a black and white.

Arriving back at Leeds/bradford,you just went to the taxi rank and hopped in the next available black and white cab.Now you have to ring Arrow from their phone in the airport building and book one which then pulls round to pick you up.I think the taxi drivers loiter in the surrounding area waiting for a call.
