Cobbled streets

Where i used to live on Ash Grove in Hyde Park has quite recently had the back street cobbles reset which I found nice. Considering that most cobbled streets have long since been tarmaced over it was refreshing to see that the council have preserved this stretch of cobbles. Considering the street is a back street - and a short length of dead end road I would have thought that preserving the cobbles would have been at the bottom of any preservation list. You can see the newly laid cobbles by taking the first left after turning left onto Victoria Road from the top of Ash Grove. I dont know if its relevant but the cobbles do run past the back of the 'Swallows and Amazons' house aka birthplace of Arthur Ransome which has its own blue plaque from the Leeds Civic Society. Maybe that is why they have preserved this short length of road?

Is this the last one in town to remain cobbled, or is it tarmac'd over now? I can't remember.'tis the back o' Lewis's btw!

Its currently under prefabs and a temporary roof constructed for the site office of the developers/construction company currently refitting/remoddeling the building into Broadgate(?) so I couldn't say for sure. Even if it is still cobbled the heavy equipment etc might have put it beyond restoration.

However if the "glass curtain wall" here is anything to go by<http://www.broadgateleeds.co.uk/gallery ... =office>Is suspect the outside will be money no object. They wouldn't want the nice view from there to be a badly pot-holed road.

The cobbles on Lyddon Terrace on the edge of the Uni campus has just been reset, looks awesome.

They are currently resetting the setts in Otley market place in an attempt to make them more even (HSE?) I was hoping they'd uncover the old underground toilets, but haven't seen owt yet. I was told they're still there. There was hell on last year, when the pitch markings for the market stalls were repainted white instead of yellow. Surprisingly, there was less of a fuss when Otley's double yellow lines were partially repainted the wrong shade of yellow. It looked like they tried to make the yellow paint go further by diluting it with white - result: a mixture of tatty bright yellow lines interspersed with new puss-yellow sections. Looks a right mess!

hehehe .... council even bodge the things that would probably earn them the most money.I'd have gone for a lovely shade of pink myself lololol

There was some recobbling just off Kendal Lane last year, fascinating to watch. There's quite a lot still around that area, I seem to remember that the back of Kelso Road and Cross Kelso Road are both cobbled still, and I think either the back of Consort Terrace or the back of Victoria Terrace might be too.

Rochester Terrace and a few of the Broomfields in Headingley are still cobbled. Back Chapel lane has been redone in recent times.
