Bearing in mind that the ages of the men looks to be mostly 40s and 50s, does this mean they are veterans of the Boer War, as they'd be too old for the Great War? Could be wrong, as I suppose fashions didn't progress much during the Second World War, in which case they are probably Great War veterans. Hi Si They say on the thread that this came from. The picture was taken after the Second World War if this is the case it would be 1939/1945 i should think. Some look a bit old so they may have been in both World Wars . Not impossible, there were only three medals issued in WW1 and some of these chaps are wearing four or five so could have been in both of the unpleasantries.

Is that chap second from the left stood up wearing an RAF uniform with the big fur collar? He is y'know, must be after WW2 then.Recognise him Arry?Could it be an Observers Corps outing? They all must have good eyesight 'cos there's nobody wearing glasses.

If its not this is there a Parkfield listed in Hunslet just a thought.     thanks for that sundowner - I had noticed the 'William Bonner' bit myself - and this will be a major help in identification.I suspect though, that the pub name is not etched on the windows (its unusual, though by no means unknown, to find this)I suspect that it isn't 'KF' at all but the 'KE' in 'SMOKE ROOM'(There was a Parkfield Tavern , and I dont have a good picture of it - but I dont think this is it)     Hi drapesy Ithought you would like to know had a look at the other thread again the first post was in Nov 2006.Then a second post in Aug 2007 but this one says Hunslet/Rothwell so it could be Rothwell.

The only William Bonner I can find was born in South-east leeds in 1911 so he'd be old enough to run a pub by the late thirties. There was a Bonner family of Boot makers in Stanningley in my 1911 Kelly's and a George Bonner, a barman, in Headingley. No - it's says on the thread that the man circled is the great grandfather of the inquirer, one Benjamin Speight Holmes.Back to the flag. I'm convinced it is a British Legion flag - you can see the central overlay. Most of the ones pictured on the web have 'xyz branch' written on the overlay, but could the word on the left on 'our' flag be 'branch'? Mind, that wouldn't fit with my thought on the second word, which looks to me like 'trade'. Has anyone noticed the odd cobbles? It could be that the photographer used one of those old motorised stands which would turn from one side to the other of the group while they all sat VERY still. But if not it looks like a sort of crescent in front of the pub where a cart could draw up.

It's an Ind Coope pub of course. Southern johnnies who aquired Leeds City Brewery and probably their pubs.Smiths on Marsh Lane was Ind coope (even I remember that and it ain't that one) and Scabby Taps still has ind coope on the frontage. After 1961 would have become a Tets.I know I know - no help at all unless you had listings of the various breweries pubs.....

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

I've talked myself into believing the inscription on the flag reads :"Beamish Pride"and there are ocurrences of that phrase on the web.or equally likely "British Pride".
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.

Sorry - no not the Mexboro . ignore much of my ramblings above it IS the Crooked Billet - now so much altered its hardly recognisable!A new window has been put in above the front door - and the pub has expanded into the property to the right, previously a house.(you can just see the faint division between the 2 properties above the 'ED' in 'CROOKED)Mystery solved.
