Si's photo posted on 28 Aug is the only one I've seen so far that looks like the prefab I used to live in. Granted, there was such a housing shortage after WW2 that all sorts of solutions would be sought, but most of the structures in the other photos look like they were constructed on site rather than totally prefabricated. Interesting pictures, though.

They were known locally as "flat tops" or "t'piggerys" Are the houses opposite the retail park (McDonald's, Focus, Next etc) in Guiseley pre-fabs?     Had a look yesterday. I was wrong. I think they're old folks bungalows. They're not old enough to be prefabs.

Didn't there used to be prefabs behind what is Naffee's at Woodhouse Moor? I'm sure I've seen pics of them in some book or another.

I have a feeling that you're right Paul - I've never seen any pictures of them, but I'm sure I remember actually seeing them "in the asbestos" so to speak. I think they were behind the building which was a cavalry barracks of some kind - funny, I ride past there several times a week but I'd forgotten all about them.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

What about the Woodbridge's off Queenswood Drive in Headingley. Are they not prefabs?
