Nice view of the interior, 16th November 1914. I think it had just been done up - new windows, fireplace, lick of paint in and out, according to Leodis.

Coo! for a minute I thought they'd started putting thosenew Taaaaall lamp posts in, way back then! Can't have been orthe town gas wouldn't have lit at that altitude! lol!Anyway there were no signs of them having half the road and pavements up! Have you seen Bramley Town St, lately???Think of the Somme, 1915.(NO I wasn't there!)Mind you 'THEY' are doing the water mains at the sametime, in the middle of the road!! Planning dept? Ptui! From the salt and pepper pots on the tables in the Tavern lounge, they must have started 'Bar meals'!

It's appeared on the Millgarth thread, so just in case, I'll put a picture of it on here. 1947, from Leodis.     It has - but not this picture - which is a belter. I suspect it was taken just before the shops were demolished. I remember the pub (never went in as I value my good looks too much) but this parade of shops had long gone.
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Ex Merchant Seaman, jumped ship in NZ in 1970...ex pat Leeds Lad. Born/lived lower end Camp Road, then up to York Road in the early sixties.

If you liked that picture of The Market Tavern, have a look at these, Drapesy. Both taken in 1914, a nice before and after view. I've already posted them on the Millgarth thread, but I think they'll stand repetition. (Hope they're not already on this thread!) Taken 4th March 1914.(Leodis.)

Here it is after a refit. I presume the landlord Job Dixon (name on wall of pic 1) was responsible. New downstairs windows and door, (Burmantoft's?) tiles, and the sign-writing's been painted over. I wonder what happened to those lovely gas lamps? Love the scissor sign further down the road, too.Taken 11th October 1914.(Leodis.) PS What's that object over the corner doorway?

I thought some of the pictures were quite good :-)As some of these pubs are now gone, these pictures could be the last ever taken of them :-(I am just glad that someone is making the effort not matter what the quality :-)Reagrds,Ward

I've just driven down North Street and glanced at the White Stag - although the windows are boarded up I'm sure there was a prominent sign saying something about "new management."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
