I'm amazed a daytime TV quiz has sustained such a grossly inflated wage for so long. Let Leeds Uni maths students do it, it's edited anyway to give them time to work it out.Old Des O'Connor isn't doing a bad job but I reckon Richard Stillgoe would be great as he often does the dictionary corner bit anyway. You need an eccentric on the show, Whiteley was awful and he knew it God rest his soul but in he was also in some strange way charming and it worked.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

I could manage very nicely on that salary and could always do a few "consolidate your debts" adverts as a sideline,it's a damn sight easier than working for a living. wss. i reckon i could do the sums too. eventually. and they have someone else who does the words bit anyway (which i'm not very good at)

Welll certainly when I went to watch, the maths was done (or not done) in real time. As for presenters, for me the only person who could possibly make a better job than Richard Whiteley would be Stephen Fry.I am a bit of a Countdown addict and am missing it this week - I think Des O' Connor's a dead loss - and I thought that about Des Lynam too. I'm sure Carol is not irreplaceable.Another alternative of course would be to do what they did when Countdown started and have two totally unknowns presenting (I know RW did Calendar but nationally he was unknown)

Well the mayor of Wetwang certainly became known nationally. The mentions he got on Wogan's breakfast show saw to that. He was an inspiration to us all. "If he can get away with it, I'm sure I could." Bless 'im. Except we couldn't get away with it like he did, he had that apparent ineptitude but managed somehow to carry it off.As for the divine Carol, I've heard it mooted that Myleen Klass has been approached as a replacement. It's only a rumour, mind. And I don't even watch the programme.

I could certainly offer Carol a couple of good positions, but the money wouldn't be up to much.Talking of Countdown - just once - ONLY ONCE would I like to see the clock stay at the bottom and go up the other side for the next round LMAO
