yeah I used to ride my bike in there a few years ago, and thought that the walls were a wierd shape if it used to only be a quarry. This is cool to know! Do you know where the guns would have been put back together?

The book says the main rifling factory was at Newlay. The War Office itinery quoted in the book says"Guns from Cardonald, Nottingham, Hadfields, Dick Kerr, Mather & Platt and British Westinghouse will, for some time to come, be rifled at Leeds, where two factories will be working. The situation will have to be reviewed as further rifling machines are obtained, but, for the present, arrangements must be made on the supposition that Leeds will do most of the rifling."Not sure about the second factory which is mentioned above. The background history in the book is a bit sketchy, as it is mainly concentrating on what happened in the quarry itself.

The quarry was used as a tip by the council and is therefore filled in.We used to visit as kids and one day found a concrete bunker. We only found it by chance and the next time we went it had been covered over with rubbish. It had the usual blast wall entrance (zig zag) at each end. I was really dissappointed that it had been covered as I thought we had found a perfect den!As for location, if you came up the old road through the park and wood into the quarry, the bunker was on the left by the tree line. How far along I couldn't say. It was ever so clean inside though.
