I think you are wrong, although I could be just as wrong myself. I think I recall Cullen's being called The Stock Exchange. Steps bars is at the far end of York Place a few doors down from where Len's Bar used to be.frisbee

RUFFARSE WTOTE :-Also Wild Man on A64.................................................................................................Happy Saturday nights in the Wildman in the early 1960s - they had a regular group called "The Rockerfellas" dressed in purple full length Teddy Boy gear. They were fabulous singers and entertainers and it was a real happy atmosphere. One of their regular songs was "I'm 'Enerey the eighth I am" - sounds corny in print I know, but it was grand. Why doesn't somebody invent one of those clocks that we can turn back to "the good times" eh ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Also Chequers at Ledsham was a good stop after the East Yorks games. Also Wild Man on A64, Fox & Grapes at Seacroft till it became a kiddies pub.Once remember in Chequers, one of the lads went to the bog and about 12 of us hid in the next room. He came out, panicked, and ran to the car park, thinking we'd gone without him. At this stage, we all moved back into the back room, with pints in hands as tho nothing had happened. Should have seen his face when he came back in. Priceless!Keep it coming. Hi Ruffarse, I cant remember who was the landlord at the GG. We also did the Wild Man and Fox and Grapes.

Hullo Blakey,Yes, remember the Rockerfallas like it was yesterday. I think it was called the Boulevard inthose days. I was still at school at the time but one of my mates had an old Austin A30. About six of used to pile in head for the Boulevard on a Sat nite. Bit of a rocker/ted haunt with a few mods coming thro as I remember. Also saw the Outer Limits play there once. Their lead man was Jeff Christie who went on to have a no1 with Yellow River in 1970, I think. I remember buying theie one and only single, Saturday Night at the Duck Pond! Also a band called the Zodiacs or Zephyrs, can't quite remember. Remember well the Rockerfallas doing 'Enery'. Not corny at all mate, timeless! On a bit of a tangent, anyone remember the Three Coins club in Leeds? It was in a bit of a back alley between Albion St and Bond St. where the Bond St SC is now. I saw some real class R&B acts there in the early 60's, Georgie Fame and his Blue Flames, Memphis Slim, Zoot Money and the Big Roll Band, and a local resident warm up band called the Blue Sounds who used to do early Stones stuff like Route 66, Mona etc. Used to have a crazy drummer(arn't they all) with a ciggie permanantly drooping fron his mouth. The coins later became the Lido Revue Bar.Also anyone remember the Concadora, the El Toro, the Del Rio coffee bars? All regular mod hang outs in the 60's around Boar lane and back streets. And the BG club?
Old Mods never die, they just semi retire.

Went to all the coffee bars you mention too

There was a brief, silly period about 10 years ago when it was called 'The Real Macaw' - dont ask why! but thankfully the proper name returned.Did you know the Queens Arms is a replacement for an earlier Queen's Arms? and that building still exists.? It used to be the first of the row of shops on the opposite side of Harrogate Road(junction with Woodland Lane). For many years this was a Newsagents, its now a Cartridge Shop - this leodis pic shows it (extreme right) when it was still a pub!!! (1930) The building still retains the green tiles that date from its time as a pub!

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

I never took any pictures there, but somewhere in my attic is a picture of the bowling team in the 1950's when it was a Melbournes pub.

It has been totally transformed inside with just one bar and a big open plan layout. The Queens of old with its many nooks & crannies changed at LEAST 20 years ago maybe more ! It went through a bit of a rough period when it was attracting under age drinkers and it was well know to be a place to go if you wanted to buy drugs, but fortunatley the pubs owners shut it down and gave it the complete face lift that it has today and they cleared all the scum clientel out as well. Now it is one of the best proper pubs in Chapel Allerton (along with the Regent) and it serves a nice drop of Tetley bitter.

The Queens used to be a wonderful pub before the changes to the layout. I knew it well in the 70s. It had a really good tap room, with a barman by the name of Paddy Driscoll there for years. And it had an out-sales window from one side of the bar.The front of the pub was the best side, one large room with a door at each end. And the back was the saloon with the bowling green out the back. I can't remember who the landlord was but he was an ex-rugby leaguer.I worked in the pub in the late seventies, around the time it was starting to attract a younger crowd.
