That would be a shame, although the last time I had a pint in there was back in 1979, and some guy was trying to hustle beers off me at the pool table (or was that the Dog & Gun?).

Doesn't seem to be much sign of life at the Barleycorn in Armley ot the New Inn at Wortley. This pic shows the Barleycorn, taken a couple of days ago. there's a christmas tree in one of the upstairs windows, peeping through the curtains.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Hi just joined when i saw you were talking about the union pub i thought i would add a few words. The union pub was on pearson st this was the main rd. The back to backs ran off of pearson st.I think there were seven streets .ie Tender st Peel st Ashley st William st . I can not rember any more.Old age has taken its toll. I do hope this has not spoiled the thread.I was too young to go in to the union pub when i lived there but did go back for a pint before it closed Happy days.

Same here, some good memories of the place & some bad ones. Especially when i was drinking in there when some one was shot!!! Very scary indeed. Apart from that i cannot fault the place, i loved the fact that the games room was like a tardis. Plus you had the choice of 2 toilets in the same room and plenty of pool tables.

Lost my front two teeth there in 1976 to one of the members of the psycho families who used to frequent the place! I was 16 & used to go in with my 14 y-o girlfriend! I don't know how we got away with it, but the back room was very very dark!Sad loss really....

Very good - just beat me to it Si !!A friend was telling me quite recently that the Shaftsbury was a great pub in the old days - you walked in through the door, and left headfirst by any window,
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
