I've scoured the thread but can't find any reference to The Pavilion Picture House, which as at the junction of Stanningley Road and Leeds/Bradford road (I think). (Otherwise known as Half Mile Lane) where the number 14 tram and later bus service to Halton started .. I was a member of the Saturday club which if I remember for 6d got me admission to a special childrens show every Saturday morning; I've a vague feeling the price might even have included a Lucky bag or similar but can't be sure! (remember those folks?)On the topic of lost cinemas, does anyone remember being taken on school outings to a temporary cinema that I think was on Woodhouse Moor, that seemed to appear there once a year. It was a big 'widescreen' experience featuring 70mm Cinemascope productions or some such modern novelty, and typically showed big block busters such as 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' that could be loosely called educational and so a great excuse for a school trip!

Hi Patexpat,Yes, I remember the Pavilion. The building is still there, opposite the Waggon and Horses. I saw the original Batman film (1960s) there. There is another thread on here somewhere about the screenings on Woodhouse Moor. It's called "Big Screen" and is under "Buildings and Structures." They showed "How The West Was Won" in Cinerama. I remember Lucky Bags, too!

Thanks for that Si - I'll look up the other thread - if my memory doesn't play tricks I think I saw The Sound Of Music on that big screen ... I guess if I saw the same structure now it wouldn't seem quite so big ;-)

If it was in Cinerama, it still would look huge!
