Leeds lost pubs

Things would seem to be looking grim again at The Prince of Wales.Since the Leeds Brewerys purchase of the pub fell through, the owners (Enterprise Inns) are looking to re-let the lease. The current landlord is apparently not at all hopeful about the future, even talking about reduced opening hours.Surely this is one pub worth saving?

I suppose this is the Government's fault as well It depends which way you look at it.Certainly the unchecked sale of alcohol as a loss leader by the supermarkets plays a part.As does the legislation that forced breweries to sell off their tied estates - designed to break the big breweries monopoly, it merely shifted the balance of power from a handful of breweries to a handful of leasing companies, who are imposing unrealistic targets on leaseholders.The credit crunch isn't helping either- a litre of diesel seems expensive at £1.30 until you remember that a pint of beer (roughly half the amount) is now approaching £3.00...Still, we'll miss the pub when it's gone

Just a thought. I don't want to contradict anyone, but I think the statue is Queen Anne?

This one a delight sir!On the main street the back to backs were on (Pearson Street) was Tetleys house "The Union" closed probably around 1960, but it's frontage stayed as a wall for the extended Engine company for 20 years.So "The Union" another lost pub.
