Rock City was what happened when Scrumpies (or Adam & Eves as it was then) got shut down for being unsafe, and we all moved over the road to what used to be Martine's, under the Corn Exchange. That was the summer of '87, I believe; we moved back to the old place in early '88, if memory serves. A year or so later we got moved out again and shipped out to the Cambrian in Holbeck for a while. Friday night, without fail, I was there. Slightly different music policy to Scrumpies, mostly glam rock, goth and punk. Brilliant place.

Used to go to the Leeds Poly Disco (that’s the Leeds Metropolitan University to you youngsters out there) on a Wednesday and Saturday night in the early to mid 70’s. Strangely enough I can’t remember too much detail except that the chief security guy was a nice chap (middle aged, moustachiod, military bearing), you didn’t use the gents if there was any chance you had a hole in your shoe and that when you put Hawkwind’s ‘Silver Machine’ on the juke box it used to get stuck in the middle of the instrumental section and go on and on and on and on………..until someone kicked the juke box (but the great thing is that it being a Hawkwind record for the first half hour or so you couldn’t tell it was stuck!).

Oh happy days!! My regular Saturday night out from 1976-77 (we lied about our age). And they always played "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd at the end. I remember it being raided for drugs on a regular basis - the place used to clear, leaving just me and my mates dancing round our handbags

Does anyone remember a dive that was just off Albion Street way back in 1972 or thereabouts? It was when the new Bond Street Centre was being built and I'm not sure if it was a temporary arrangement but it was down an alley at the side of Maples furniture shop, on the right of Albion Street just below the junction with Bond Street/Commercial Street. Only went once on a works night out as part of a club crawl but I seem to remember it was a very weird place with a doorman who was about 8 feet tall with hands like shovels. Very strange night out as I recall but I would be grateful if anyone could remind me what the place was called.

Regarding doormen there was one in the seventies who was a regular outside many a pub and night club. Tall guy with a scarred face (we were told that he had been badly cut helping a cop who was being attacked). He was a nice chap (no hard man rubbish) and well respected by the punters.Back to night clubs there used to be a boat parked up on the Aire off The Calls near Leeds Bridge. I think this was in the late seventies. I went a couple of times but can’t remember what it was called or much about it. I seem to recall that it had a student feel to it but it’s all a bit of a blur. I think it caught (or was set on) fire and never reopened.
