Not a lost pub, rather the antipathy - a new pub with its own brewery - worth a mention perhaps.http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/content/arti ... ture.shtml

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Things would seem to be looking grim again at The Prince of Wales.Since the Leeds Brewerys purchase of the pub fell through, the owners (Enterprise Inns) are looking to re-let the lease. The current landlord is apparently not at all hopeful about the future, even talking about reduced opening hours.Surely this is one pub worth saving?

I suppose this is the Government's fault as well It depends which way you look at it.Certainly the unchecked sale of alcohol as a loss leader by the supermarkets plays a part.As does the legislation that forced breweries to sell off their tied estates - designed to break the big breweries monopoly, it merely shifted the balance of power from a handful of breweries to a handful of leasing companies, who are imposing unrealistic targets on leaseholders. The credit crunch isn't helping either- a litre of diesel seems expensive at £1.30 until you remember that a pint of beer (roughly half the amount) is now approaching £3.00...Still, we'll miss the pub when it's gone

Outside it has a statue of a large breasted very colourful lady & it always reminded me of the sea (not sure why). Havent got a clue what it was called.Does my description ring any bells? Just an idea here - I doubt if I'm right but hope it may help. I think you may mean the old Ritz/ABC cinema in Vicar Lane as there was no recent cinema in Boar Lane other than the tiny Tatler. Just a hundred yards away from the ABC, in New Briggate at the top of the narrow part of Merrion Street and opposite the "Wrens", is a corner shop on the first floor of which is a very interesting statue (still there) of a "Britannia" type lady in flowing robes. Just a thought. I don't want to contradict anyone, but I think the statue is Queen Anne?

It had been my Mum's "Grandad's"(step grandad or something) pub and my parents had their wedding do in there (Feb 59) after which I think it soon closed. Can't find anything on Leodis. Pubs must have been in the family - Mum was born in the Waterloo on East Street in 1940 I have attached a photo from "The Hunslet Engine Works: over a century and a half of locomotive building" by D. H. Townsley, published by Plateway Press in 1998 (ISBN 1 871980 38 0), page 153. The photo is of the Hunslet Engine Co, on Jack Lane which runs left to right across the lower part of the photo. The white building on the right of the row of terraced houses is, I think, The Albion that you refer to. This photo is from 1949. The building in the centre on the right-hand edge of the photo (just creeping into the picture) is the British Queen on Grape Street. Brilliant Johnny,My Dad's family lived in those streets between the engine company and Fowlers. Piccy's of them are very rare. This one a delight sir!On the main street the back to backs were on (Pearson Street) was Tetleys house "The Union" closed probably around 1960, but it's frontage stayed as a wall for the extended Engine company for 20 years. So "The Union" another lost pub.
