Job Day

Hi, does anybody know of this long gone old company? I have been told by a friend that it once, for a very short time, made cars. The cars may even have been steam-driven.The factory was near where B&Q and Aldi are now on the ring road near Elland road (junction 1 M621). Not sure what else was made there, possibly washing machines.I have never heard of the company so I would be interested in any information. Hopefully someone in Secret Leeds land will know.

That's really interesting. So is this Perkins the Diesel engine manufacturer from Peterborough? And are Rose Forgrove still conneced with them?I had a friend who served his time at Forgrove on Dewsbury Road, he then moved to Sulzer on Jack Lane and thence to Barnbow.

Absolutely fascinating - I have known of the name Job Day in the back of my mind longer than I can remember, but had no idea at all what trade they were involved in.This sort of enterprise was what the REAL Leeds was all about.

Regarding the car, I believe it was called a Day-Leeds.Although I worked at Rose Forgrove, for the life of me can't remember what products Jod Day manufactured.

My father served his apprenticeship at Job Days which I would imagine to be in the1930's. He did tell me what it was they made there but I can't for the life of me remember! However during the war when he went to sign up for the forces he was told he was in a reserved occupation and was sent back to work. I think I'm correct in saying that during the war they made food packaging machinery amongst other things. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
