Leeds lost pubs

All that is left of The (Chained Bull is a pile of rubble behind the screen. Photo taken yesterday evening.

The Mustard Pot at Chapel Allerton is still closed, waiting for someone to take over the lease.The Highwood (Brackenwood Drive) re-opened at the weekend.

Well, blow me down with a feather as they say - I had no idea that the Chained Bull was threatened or closed, and I'm even more astounded to hear that it is "down."

Hi, new to this site.I was a regular drinker in my youth in the leeds 9 area. Seen the posts regarding many of the old pubs in the area.My first local and illegal pint was in the Plasterers Arms on Skinner Lane arond 1979 ( I was 16 ) Drank in their for many years and also played in a band on Sunday afternoons. Got kicked out cos' we were [edited for content]. Loved the old juke box in their.The granville down the Road was a Vaux pub then, I was partial to the lethal Samson Ale. I think the Samson upped the crime rate in the area.Loads of great pubs have gone in the area, does anyone remember the Railway on Marsh lane, also the Smiths arms further down, all gone I'm afraid. A pub around the corner from the Smiths by Haworth Timber..Can't think of the name but the Oakwood scooter club met their once a month. Anyone help with my Samson Aled memory!

Was it the Waterloo on East Street? Lots of rugby memorabilia if I remember rightly. That was part of a really good pub crawl round Cross Green, all of it gone now.

We used to do the pub crawl in the late eighties starting at the Waterloo and ending at the Spring Close and seeing the same people in every pub,Has girls we always felt safe because everyone knew each other .We also used to go to Whitelocks, again usually the same crowd that went to the Spring Close,the last time I went to the Whitelocks was 91 the week before I came to South Africa,We went to say goodbye to the landlord Freddie Cliff who we knew very well.Does anyone know where he is?

Thanks Tasa, thats the one, there was also another pub right next door which the name has evaded me. After the waterloo, there was the walk up east steet to the black dog, then next door to the fishermand hut, then up the street to the spring close and the yew tree, then over the road to the hampton, happy days.

Anyone help with my Samson Aled memory! hiya spudoil, i remember the smith's arm well, i used to work up the road from there at windsor& blacks, it was my local pub, especially at dinnertimes,also i lived not far from the granville, they knocked all the best pubs down
