This sign survives in Leeds Central Library from 1934, when the Municipal Buildings housed the City of Leeds Police Headquarters and Criminal Investigation Department until they moved to Brotherton House in Westgate and finally on to Millgarth.

The Library is a real treasure of a building, with original Victorian tiling, grand staircases, stained glass and gargoyles! Here's the CID sign in context.

Drapesy will like these! They are at the entrance to a yard next to Mr Foley’s on the Headrow. I think Park Lane was incorporated into the Headrow in the late 50s.

I remember when I lived in East Parade as a child in the 60s, the Headrow street sign had a supplementary wooden sign underneath which said “Late Park Lane” and I couldn’t work out what it meant!

Very interesting stuff Tasa - I've known the area in and around Woodhouse for years - but I've never seen those boundary markers -brilliant find. Wonder if there are any others?
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

It is on the Parish Church wall and indicates that this spot was the EAST BAR to the village of Leeds.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

This is at the bottom of Crab Lane in Armley. The white lettering is Leeds Provident/Provincial?? Building Society, and the cream sections at top and bottom say "Home xxx Safe xxx" and "Branch Office".
