I think he's got a new handbag. I'll bet a brand new car bought today wouldn't cover the miles (that this gent has covered throughout his obvious healthy life) before it hits the scrapyard.

Back in the early 70's my dad had the chicken inn all night cafe oposite the market side door by the Scotsman, he regularly fed Barnsley Bob the old grey bearded tramp. One particular day we were in the market and he started growling and swearing at us, as 10/11 year olds it was a bit frightening so we were off, him chasing. I will never forget looking back and this old tramp in full flight with his over coat flapping and his todger waving about! PROPER S**T IT!Many years later he was to feature in the film of St Georges cript and in the book, that picture in the book brought back some mad memories.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but there used to be a guy in the late 80's through to the mid 90's (at least) who used to wander around east Leeds collecting pop cans out of bins.He definately used to go down Austhorpe Road in Crossgates at least once a week, if not more, usually spotted him early evening as I was getting home from work or off to the Travellers. The story was that he got 1p for every can he collected, and that by collecting cans all the time he'd got enough to buy a big house somewhere posh, near Roundhay Park, I think the rumour went...Even back then you'd have been looking at a minimum of £100,000 for something near Roundhay Park - thats an awful lot of cans at 1p a go!

The "mad monk's" name is Geoffrey Brindley, and he lives in Bradford, but like others on here, I've seen him in various parts of West Yorkshire during the past 40 - 50 years. He doesn't own any property, but is given house space by someone. Apparently he's actually very shy, and doesn't talk easily to people. A former acquaintance of mine used to rail about him, claiming that he'd left his wife and kids to be funded by the state while he went walkabout, but I've no idea where she got her "facts" from.

Put me right off my pork scratchings. He was actaully a nice bloke and let me take a picture of him on my phone. I'll put it up if someone can tell me how ...!? I've seen him or someone very like him in Morley market and Morrisons in Morley. He really does look frightening. I saw him again today in Morley Post Office - he was stood (stud geddit) behind me in the queue.

Anyone remember the Down's Sydrome dude that used to go around dressed as a cowboy? He used to get on my bus sometimes, cira early 80s, by lincoln green though i don;t recall where he got off.Late 80s to early 90s i'm sure i saw him around Headingley, unless there was another Down's dude who also dressed as a cowboy :~ Can't say i've seen him since maybe 92, if that. And there was a (i think) transvestite hanging around headingley around the same time, not seen him for years either. Remember once seeing him going up the side of hyde park wearing a french maid's outfit lol O_o

When I lived in Kirkstall there was a chap called Johnny who would move the commercial wheelie bins around the area around the Lights and occasionally tip them out on the grass around the leisure centre. It was a constant source of annoyance to the staff in the West End House as they would get the blame for it, although you could sit in the pub and see him shoving the bins down the path from the Kwik Save. There were various rumours about him as always but I think he was in and out of sheltered accomodation somewhere nearby.

I remember that guy. When I was on Stand By for LCC Highways I once had to go and clean up the mess he'd made.He had taken an old washer from a skip and was smashing it to pieces on Kirkstall HillWith his bare hands.Chucking the bits at passing cars.
