Hi GlennyThanks for that info (shan't go there, either, then!).There was a chippie just round the corner towards Weston and the Prince 'enery's schoo-il, that served pensioner's specials and real good value (not small portions!).BUT they closed a couple of years back.Always the case!Never tried Chip'nDales but the fish always looks over-done (Muddy brown) on the alfresco diners' plates. Don't fancy eating opposite the Ladies Loo anyroad up!CheersArry

Arry, do you mean the one that was round the corner on Farnley Lane in a row of stone terraces? My Ex's auntie used to run that!Or do you mean the one opposite the entrance to the school just below the Yew Tree pub? cos that one has re-opened with new owners. Not sure what they cook with but it is excellent, ALL fish are cooked to order so not left under a heat light for ages! Worth a try next time your in Otley!Cheers
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Might try the latter next time in Otters! Not been toIlk or Ot this year yet,due to weather and hospitals etc. We'll get there before Christmas! Our favourite 2 placesto visit in W.Yorks!Yes,it was your Ex's Auntie's (eh?), chippie I'm talking ofin the row of cottages. Shame they don't open again! We used tolove to sit in Wharfemeadows and have a good scoff!(Dodging the gulls and pigeons!)Changing venues, Did you see Oliver's 'put down' of'Battered' a couple of weeks back in the YEP? He reallywent to town on them. All One 'Star' except Service, which got Two!Supposed to be an excellent fish restaurant too. This has been mentioned in a recent Chippies(Caffs and Greasy Spoons)thread. Thanks againArry

Don't know if the two railway stations still exist but it was always confusing to me that the one in City Square was called Central and the other one close by was called City. Seems that City station should have been in City Square. Once waited at one and my friend was at the other. We were supposed to go to London together. My mistake. This was in the early sixties.Another school omission: I went to Leeds Girls' High School.

Nay lass - tha's gone 'un got thissen all flumoxxed tha' knows The station in City Square - now enlarged and improved at a cost of over £240 million - still exists and was always called LEEDS CITY. The one along Wellington Street (for King's Cross trains) was called CENTRAL and was closed in 1967 and demolished many years ago.So its a wonder you and your pal ever got to London - or did you ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I have a LS post code. If anyone from outside the area asks I say I'm from Leeds. But I'm a Morlean really. Although my son considers himself a Loiner and my daughter who lives in Wiltshire's nickname at work is "Leeds" They were both born at Staincliffe too! As for fish and chips in Leeds - Drakes, Bretts and the Art Deco one at Oakwood are the best IMO. Norrie Ward who wrote "There's no place like Morley" says the bridge at the bottom of Churwell hill is really a wall to keep the Loiners out

You're from Leeds when:-You remember the long trail from town out to Wellington Street Coach Station with your suitcase. You caught a Leeds bus and got more than one ticket (the good old Ultimate machine). There were only a few pizza places in Leeds and it was a posh thing! Then you weren't looking out for having you chips snatched by a kite!
I like work. I can watch it for hours.
