As you come into town up North Street, almost opposite the Greedy Pig cafe and before the slip road onto York Road there is a circular building that looks like a set of flats. However it does not appear to be in use and it has 'Cerberus' posted on a few on the gates so I am assume that is a security companyNote cerberus - a dog, usually represented as having three heads, that guarded the entrance of the infernal regions. It has intrigued me as to what it is but as I am only ever on the bus it id hard to find out moreAny assistance please

You are correct LS1 and thanks.I have copied the description from the link below. 19th January 2006. Image shows the recently evacuated Caspar Apartments(City Centre Apartments for Single People at Affordable Rents) at number 55, North Street, constructed for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Unfortunately, the innovative design of the prefabricated apartments did not live up to expectations and an engineering report deemed that bad weather conditions could leave them vulnerable. The £68,500 apartments comprising of a kitchen, bathroom, double bedroom and living area, plus a small 2nd bedroom or home office were designed by Japanese construction company, Kajima and assembled in the factory before being placed on site by crane. The five storeys were self supporting and served by lifts. Each flat was a generous 51 square metres, and they were completed in 2000. Photograph courtesy of James William Bell.It is a shame as I am sure someone would buy them as affordable housing, although weather they could get a mortgage or insurance is debatable.John

Movement here: YEP TonightDate: 21 December 2009 Plans are being drawn up for a £30m student skyscraper on the edge of Leeds city centre. If the scheme gets planning permission, a 35-storey block would be built in North Street on the site of flats that have stood empty since experts advised they were potentially unsafe in high winds. The £3m Caspar (City Centre Apartments for Single People at Affordable Rents) development was completed nine years ago by Japanese construction company Kajima.Using high-speed advanced pre-fabrication techniques, the distinctive crescent-shaped block was hailed as revolutionary but in 2005 consultants advised the flats were potentially unsafe in high winds. The residents moved out in 2006 and the 46 flats have since stood empty. They were bought by by developer Life Homes who planned to redevelop the site and it has now been bought by Yorkshire-based Manor Property group, in a deal handled for Manor by law firm Lupton Fawcett and residential property agents Titchmarsh and Co.Chris Waterhouse, director in Lupton Fawcett's property services group, said: "The land has been acquired from the administrators/funders of Life Homes which had intended to redevelop the site of the original CASPAR scheme, which was built over nine years ago by a Japanese company, but was subsequently evacuated after fears it could collapse in high winds."The acquisition by Manor will enable these dangerous and dilapidated buildings to finally be demolished and replaced by a scheme which will transform the area for the better, subject to planning permission."The tower block, being designed by architects Carey Jones, will have 600 student apartments and will be called Manor Point.Philip Akrill, of Manor, said: "We are delighted to have acquired this prominent site which is centrally located between the various Leeds campuses, public transport hubs and city centre facilities."The proposed design from Carey Jones provides an elegant building that can only serve to enhance North Street and the surrounding Leeds neighbourhoods, delivering a positive transformation from the current dilapidated state of the Caspar apartments which will be demolished to develop the site."The development will be operated by Manor Student Homes, part of Manor Property

When I was a student back in 1978, I hated student accomodation, and moved out to live in a shared, rented terraced house as soon as possible. It wasn't as sallubrious, but felt much more like home - well away from all the studenty-types!

My daughter would agree with you - away as soon as she could, as she said after 3 years, you grow out (up)of it all! 'Specially when work has to be done
