Clearly the Pool is doomed and I can't see it being reprieved, but what will happen on this piece of "prime real estate"? Short term car park... for the foreseeable future no doubt! The pools supposed to be demo'd in September! According to an article in todays YEP, the council are getting a bit of a slating for wanting to demolish the International Pool and use the site as a car park. Apparently the Leeds civic trust is astounded that the building has no architectural merit and that the council should withdraw its plan to demolish the pool and consider other uses for the building instead. I for one would be happy with that as I quite like the building, and it would be a shame just to see it turned into a car park. (Although I wish it would have remained a swimming pool!)
Change is inevitable, but never from a vending machine!

I thought this application was to formalise that which is happening, using the pool-associated car park facility as a now public car park Seems rather early to apply for using the whole site when demolition isn't due until September. My understanding is that the car park will then close.

I read (probably in Y.e.p) that they were still planning to build something new, just cheaper than the tower. Surely the "something new" wasn't just a car park? I've seen old swimming pools covered over and used for events such as concerts (I think this was the case at a pool in Bloxwich). I'm sure people would flock to see a band or event there

It's too expensive a site, prime development land now, to be used for anything which wouldn't realise its true financial potential.

Maybe we should all chain ourselves to the doors of the pool. I'm afraid it looks like it will definitely be curtains for the pool even if its not replaced with anything fantastic. On the subject of redevelopment what does everyone think of the new food emporium at the corn exchange. Sounds like one of those plans that sounds like it will make big bucks on paper but in reality is doomed! Maybe i'm wrong or just annoyed that some of my fav stores have been moved though. I wonder if alot of the new buildings going up around leeds will still be popular in 50 years time or whether they will be marked for future urban explorersOn a lighter note I always smile when i go past that old (think its a water pump building) near the old retail park on wellington street. New buildings going up all around it but the old git manages to hold on

Have a look here D2G:http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... ght=1There are other threads too talking about the Corn Exchange.BTW, the tower is actually one of what was a pair, lifting towers to move the rail trucks between the upper and lower levels of the old station. They were supposed to be listed but somehow only one was included so the developers 'dutifully' removed the other!More about these on here too if you do a search.
