anyone remember that little old lady on the st wilfrids in the early to mid 70s that would chase you or just attack you for no reason what so ever?i think the poor old lass was commited by her long suffering giant of a husband.or the guy on crutches with one leg...he had been a fighter pilot in the war,and if you could get past his growl,he would tell you lots of tales of the war,and make roll ups with one hand.
i do believe, induced by potent circumstances, that thou art' mine enemy?

The news vendor who pitched outside Lewis,s? was Joe Haigh. He used to stand at top of Middleton Park Grove on a Saturday "teatime" waiting for the "Football specials" to be dropped off. Then he would go down the road with his cry(final news or post).Joe was a Middleton resident, and he was also asked by the BBC to "quiten down" during a test match because his voice(selling papers) was interfering with the commentery

Little old woman, sits in shop doorways in town begging, sometimes has a mis-spelt piece of carboard detailing some imaginary plight. She's been at it for at least 20 years, and I'm sure she's not homeless!

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

Not knowing how old you are Chris, or wanting to be insulting, did you or your parents know Dave and Peter Armstead? We lived in the maisonettes too, at number 25, in the first block as you're coming from Town Street. We moved there in 66 and I left in 75. My mum and brother lived there til about 78. The names ring a bell. I'm 50 now btw!!

I'm in my mid-forties and the monk has been a fixture for what seems the whole of my life.I think he has a large house in Baildon or Bingley and he should be loaded - think of the money he saves on bus fares or petrol. One other thing - Ive actually seen him in many parts of West Yorks and North Yorkshire.I've a couple of pictures of him on flickr. Unfortunately I've not worked out to upload them to here so here's the link: Secondly the link only seems to work by copy an paste - sorryhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/23365014@N05/sets ... 227706432/

How about Alec Mid 70's in Rodley. I think he was polish, he certainly had an eastern european accent. I heard many tales at the time - none of which I can actually remember, except that he was very well educated. He always wore knee length black leather boots and if I remember correctly his wife would sway along drunkenly, a few feet behind. He used a stick but more of a swagger stick than a walking stick.I lived on Rodley Town Street at the time and as a child would see him from my bedroom window walking past 3 or 4 times a night.

Correction - He wasn't in his mid 70's - I remember him from the 1970's

I think he's got a new handbag.
