There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

There really is a market for this stuff Brandy. I always say we all can see the 'bog standard tourist shot' of our buildings. What we want to see is those 'out of bounds places' and all those weird & wonderful tales that go with it. Strange & curious, Fact & fiction. It's a whole new way to learn our history. We don't want to sit there in a boring history lesson. We wanna get out there covered in the mud don't we lol?     Lets just hope more & more people start to realise this & let these places be documented. It would be a first for any city I would say!

Leeds Lass wrote: I totally agree with you! Leeds is almost recognisable from when I was a kid. My favourite view, and you would have loved the photo opportunity Phil, was from the cafe right at the top of Schofields, as was, back in the mid 70's. Views over the whole of the market end of Leeds. I used to sit looking out over the rooftops and think it was magical! The "tallest" building you could see was the market!!! Unlike now, bloody Bridgewater! (Wish I could remember the cafe name. I think Schofields had 2 cafes and one A La Carte restaurant. Used to go there too! Their mixed grill was to die for! Served from silver platters by women wearing black and white waitresses outfits, with little frilly "tiara" type hats on! Sorry, went all nostalgic there!!) I think it's a shame when the hidden treasures get bulldozed without a thought. Access all areas before it's too late I say!!! I think the cafe was called The Croft, Leeds Lass. They had white coffee cups and green coffee cups, one for a single drink, and one for a refill (or was that Lewis's?) I remember they did a lemon meringue that was so yellow it must have been made at Sellafield!

Right, it doesn't give you very much in the way of written detail, no more than what you told us about the young soldiers suffocating in the hayloft. There is, however a picture of the two skulls, which I'll try and post up if you bear with me a while.

The Haunted Leeds book mentions the Crown & Fleece was shut in about 1930. It had it's own brewhouse and stables (where the recruited men supposedly died.) However, the caption to the skull pic says, "The carved skulls (no longer in existence) which represented the two deceased recruits." Of course, we now know that is not the case!Hope this is of use.Cheers,Si.

I think its hard to say where the pub actually was Phill. The wall the skulls were on is/was old and could have had various uses/owners over the years. I think the skulls were somewhere here; Ok Drapsey. Thanks for that. Well i'm always under the impression the pub was the old chippy. It would be worth having a look in that old yard. I wonder if the food girl will open again up for another nosey round the back passage lol
