For the majority of my memory the 8 and 9 were circulars on the ring road one running clockwise t'other anti. the ringroad being self defined beeston/churwell to crossgates/whitkirk and vice versa and being beestons middleton ring road- throstle lane - leadwell lane- aberford road for much of the rest of the route. It has recently become one on the north section and t'other on south though I don't remember it being that before but I won't argue with those that remember it.speaking of strange add ons. In my child hood the 20 ran from Tommy Wass or maybe Middleton to Moortown corner and/or Roundhay park and back via Dewsbury Road and Harrogate/Chapeltown road. 2 or 3 years ago for a short period Arriva ran the same service (to Roundhay park) but extended to/from Wakefield bus station vianewton hill outwood. thorpe and Miggy

There is still a number 9 that runs along the ringroad operated by First - it passes the stop I use to get home from work in Colton. It goes from there to Pudsey via all manner of places south of Leeds, then presumably carries on round to Seacroft. It might have a different number travelling in the other direction. One day I might take it for a very indirect journey home, just for the ride. The 45 route sounds a bit like the route that the 38 takes - this runs from Wortley via Armley, Kirkstall, Headingley and Meanwood shopping centre up to Moortown. It used to go as far as the White Rose in the other direction but stopped a few years ago.

[quotenick="iansmithofotley"]Hi Parksider,Route No. 45 (Stanks to Wortley).Pendas Way, Stanks Drive, Stanks Lane North, York Road, North Parkway, Seacroft Avenue, Seacroft Crescent, Brooklands Avenue, Bailey’s Lane, North Parkway, Kentmere Avenue, Boggart Hill Drive, Easterly Road, Roundhay Road, Gledhow Valley Road, King Lane, Stonegate Road, Monkbridge Road, Shaw Lane, Otley Road, North Lane, Kirkstall Lane, Bridge Road, Wyther Lane, Armley Ridge Road, Cockshott Lane, Stanningley Road, Armley Ridge Road, Wortley Road, Whingate, Upper Wortley Road, Dixon Lane, Whitehall Road. On reverse route, buses ran from Gledhow Valley Road to Roundhay Road via Harehills Avenue and Harehills Lane and via Pendas Way, Kelmscott Crescent and Kelmscott Green.[quote]I remember the 40 terminating at Kelmscott Green. This would have been in the early 70's. This would have been before it was re-routed, turning off York Rd at Halton Dial and going up the hill to Halton, then down Green LAne to Station Rd in Crossgates then along Austhourpe Rd. Prior to that, it had come straight up York Rd, Crossgates Rd, Austhorpe Rd and Penda's Way. The bus stopped outside the community hall and then reversed back into Kelmscott Green before setting off back along Penda's Way.After re-routing, it continued further into Stanks.

Trojan maybe Ian Smith will do another lookup for us as you are probably thinking of erlier than me. I am talking from the late 70s to the mid/late 90s

The number 30 ran from the bus station to Ireland wood (later became the number 4.Also the 33 & 36 both ran from the bus station up Otley Road, 33 to Cookridge and 36 to Tinshill. The 71 ran a queer route from Greenthorpe to Long Causeway later to Headingley when the 28 was extended to Long Causeway.

I have early memories of the 40 (unless my memory is failing me). I forget which year it started but I was still at college so it was around 1947 or 1948. Initially it ran from the Central Bus Station, along Eastgate, up New York Road, York Road, Selby Road, Chapel Street, Green Lane, Station Road, Austhorpe Road, Penda's Way, Penda's Grove, Manston Gardens, Church Lane and Barwick Road to Stanks and the reverse way back to town. The route was later altered to end at the top of Penda's Grove and later again to continue down Penda's Way to the Community Centre. (On my last trip to the U.K. I got a bus to Stanks and asked for the Community Centre and the driver didn't know where it was.) After the demise of the trams, it was rerouted to go down Crossgates Road (or it is Lane) to York Road. It still followed that route when I left Leeds in 1960.At that time the 38 went from the Brown Cow at Whitkirk to Oakwood at least and probably beyond.
