Not a native, I'm afraid, but lived in leeds for 4 years in the 70s, and visited frequently for many years after, though only occasionally and briefly in recent years. Knew many of the pubs mentioned, especially in the centre. One person described the Duncan as "colourful". The same could be said of its neighbour, the Star and Garter. The Duncan, The Star and Garter and The Admiral on the other side of Boar Lane were all Sam Smiths pubs. Funny that really, three altogether can't think of another in central Leeds. General elliott was a Sammies. The Angel is now.

I was in the Queen's Hotel,Morley last night and after speaking to the landlord who is due to retire shortly there are Rumours it may not re-open,this is a shame as even though the pub has had a bad reputation in the past,it aint a bad place to go for a pint. After Loosing the Brunswick arms which to be fair wasn't a great pub but was a damn sight better than the cheap looking flats that have replaced it and also The Albion which was one of my local's at the up untill its closure 2-3 years ago, which has been left at the mercy of the local chav's,But no doubt in due course shall also be converted into yet more apparent luxury flats...Tis a shame.

Beer's not up to much in there though. There isn't what I'd call a decent pub in central Morley IMO. Nearest are the Gardeners down wide lane and the Stump Cross.

'LUXURY'......why do i feel the word was extensively used on the building of quarry hill, leak street and the other one or two blocks that have been put up[ in leeds since the thirties??

Very true trojan there isn't really a decent pub in morley, but i would rather keep these Mediocre public houses rather than be surrounded by more jumped up rabbit hutches which the developers are throwing up around morley lol,The Gardeners is alright but the stump cross is like a morgue, prefer the Cross keys especially since the live music got alot better or the halfway house with its attractive female staff, tis a bit pricey though.
