With all the current fuss abut the storn down south, itvstruck me thatwe haven't got a thread to moan about the weather or to reminicise about how awful/great it when we were kids<LOL>!so any tales about the drought of 1976? snow in1963 ,(or for the old uns 1941!)?

I seem to remember being told that my father had to walk through waist deep snow to see me when I was born in February 1933 and the snow had drifted up to bedroom window level (although it may just have been a tale of his ). I think it was in 1947 that the snow lasted for weeks on end and they even tried using a jet engine to clear the snow from the railway in one place, without much success I believe. I have no memories of anything special in 1941.

You are correct it was 1947 that was the bad winter. It was before I was born so I plead my faulty memory on dates<g>.

I can remember walking along the frozen Leeds/Liverpool canal between Apperley Bridge and Rodley - must have been about 1975ish. The ice was very thick except under bridges, where you had to walk around. The ice made a sound like a pistol shot when it cracked.
