Thought you guys might appreciate some photos i took of the former High Royds Hospital near Menston. According to it's wiki page Quote: High Royds hospital is a now-closed psychiatric hospital in the village of Menston, Bradford, West Yorkshire. It was first opened on 8 October 1888, as the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum, and was closed on 25 February 2003.The hospital once contained a library, a surgery, a dispensary, butchers, dairies, bakers, a sweetshop, an upholster's, a cobbler's, spacious grounds, a ballroom and even a railway. The patients lived in Nightingale wards (named after Florence Nightingale), rather than the individual accommodation found in the more recent mental health units. i had the misfortune to be a resident there for a while in 1991, and later in 2002. The photos were taken in 2004, about a year after it's closure, but before before the developers started work.close up on clock tower:i have no idea what this was about:the ward where i was... nothing a can of 5 star and a box of matches couldn't fix some signage:if people are interested, i could prob. scan a few more, time allowing...

I was born there too. Also visited a family member in High Royds and remember telling him that I thought the male nurse was fit. He replied 'If you mean him dressed in white, he's not a nurse, he's in here for being a serial arsonist' Oops!

Used to visit High Royds about 3 times per year, to service /repair the tractors that they had working in the grounds. The hospital estates management were very tight with money, had to be chased and chjased for payment, indeed they once wanted flashing indicators fitting to their tractors, but the tight sod's didn't want to pay for the actual flashing relay, and only wanted 1 light per side, not front and rear, all to save approx £50!!I was also involved at the early stages of the redevelopment into luxury housing, the developers involved tried to keep it's previous role very quiet from prospective house purchasers, I wonder why ??!!
