Pictures of 1970s Briggate?

Does anyone have any pictures of Briggate from the 1970s - or can you point me in the direction of where I might find some? I am trying to find some of the junction with Boar Lane (to prove that there was a shop called Huggy Bears) and also of near the junction with the Headrow - where the Chelsea Girl shop was.Thanks.

Yes, tried Leodis. All I got was a picture of the Dolcis shop on the corner with Albion Place.

Been to the Central Library in Leeds. they have some random books with photos not yet on Leodis in them....

Try a variety of search criteria on Leodis, Boar lane AND Briggate or Duncan Street AND, and so on, I think you'll find a variety of pictures.

Can't remember it myself - can remember the big Hush Puppies shop that was in the vicinity in the late 60's early 70's - it had an absolutely massive picture of a dog on the side of the building!

huggy bears does ring a bell. did it sell jeans? i'll have to ask my sister, i bet she knowsi thought chelsea girl was at the bottom of the thorntons arcade, where starbucks is now? i remember my mother forcing my sister to take me to town (she was six years older than me and far from impressed). the shop had the word 'GIRL' in huge letters the height of the window, and while my sister tried on clothes, i'd climb on the letters and sit on the G. and wait. and wait...it then moved to opposite the bond street centre on albion street (i think)

Yes Huggy Bears did sell jeans - I worked there selling them, on a Saturday. We were right opposite what was then a very small independent record shop known as Virgin Records and next to a Second Hand shop with the great title "We Buy Owt". (When Virgin started to expand they put up a sign in reply: "We Buy Out")That was my second Saturday job. The first was at a tat emporium known as Quids In, in the old Boots shop near Thornton Arcade. I used to sit in the G of Chelsea Girl massive window logo as I waited for the number 8 shcool bus to Meanwood. Would love to see some pics of these old places but can't look this stuff up in the library as I am quite a distance away.

well at least you can show your non believing friends this thread and say 'look! it did exist! some random from the internet remembers it too!' loli can't believe i can remember what a shop from 25 years ago or so sold. i have a memory for utter, utter trivia. i wouldn't have even shopped there. it must have been another place my sister dragged me to, while on the hunt for skin tight indigo wranglers or something (the ones that showed up white marks when they creased)she used to go there and another jeans place, possibly in one of the arcades or shopping centres? i can't remember but i think that one had a naff name tooi remember virgin being there too (where house of fraser is now?). the carrier bags were orange but then they changed them so it was a different colour every week or so. my sister used to collect them rotfl
