You're right, it was Henry W Poole & Co Ltd. They used to buy splints and things from the firm I work for, years ago. Leodis have tagged a photo of Crispin House as HERBERT Poole, is this just a mistake on their part or were there a number of H Pooles knocking about at one time?

Dash it! just lost a lot of input trying to backtrack on this thread!GRRRR!Start agen! Well Kierentc, luv, you've certainly started a goodand interesting thread on here! Was surprised how many postingsit has brought up since I signed off last eve! You must all have beenburning the midnight oil (Bio-Diesel,of course!),whilst I Slumbered.Glad I remembered right regarding Hy Poole's factory being onthat location. Only difference is the white lettering as against gold,as previously remembered. Thanks for those Leodis D/L.'s (They said they couldn't find any infoor pix, when I asked!)Regarding the Caspar House fiasco (demolished due to beingdeclared unsafe in wind!), Weren't those flats built on what we called the 'Jew's Park', which became 'NorthSt Recreation ground? That was on the other side of North St. from Pooles.Hope to read more on this thread and thanks Kieren and allcontributors!Arry

Jew's Park (Or Sheenie Park as it was known - can I say that??) is still there. It was the site of a rape a few months ago by a guy from Little London. Originally the site of the Smithfield Meat Market before becoming a park in the 1880's I think if I remember rightly. If you go past in summer there is a contingent of alcoholics sat on the benches whilking away the hours...The Caspar eyesore is still there unfortunately - Due to be knocked down though soon.

St John's churchyard used to be another favourite haunt. It will be interesting to see what effect the recvent refurb has this coming summer (if we get one) LS1 wrote: The Caspar eyesore is still there unfortunately - Due to be knocked down though soon. I take it this is the circular/curved building on theside of the slip road to the inner ring road at the back of the old dispensary building.

Ey up everybody,Just to clarify, all newcomers are of course more than welcome (indeed encouraged!) to post new questions or answer old ones - as someone said above, the more the merrier. All munki and I ask is that everyone remain polite and civil to one another!Very glad to hear you like the site anyway Regarding your question, I believe the development of those flats has halted because a significant number of them were sold off plan, before the original developers went bust.As far as I know, any company which took over would have to buy every individual investor out before continuing the work, which has thus far made finishing the project financially unviable. I suppose sooner or later the equation of 'deposits to be paid off' versus 'the profit to be made' will balance out again and become more attractive to investors. Crying shame in the meantime though. Not sure about who's paying for all the scaff around the building, but I know ClearChannel put some big building wrap posters on it recently - probably the only way for the current owners to make any money on it at all.Cheers, dsco

Ok could be wrong here, but i seem to remember that the grey monstrosity was part of the penthouse, which was to be the most expensive flat in Leeds, that was however a good few years ago before the building boom.

Wasn't there also supposed to be a super high class restaurant in that building to be run by a super high class Chef "poached" :<weedy pun, I know> from London. That seems to have gone the way of all flesh.
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.

I also seem to remember that it was to have had a penthouse suit ( possibly where the dome is), a car pool of top marque motors available to all residents, a sauna, swimming pool and gym exclusive to residents and, as said above, a very exclusive resturant, from which residents could order food on na room service type basis. Not sure about the prices quoted though, while £69,000 seems a lot of money I well remember a work mate from my days on the railway going to see about a riverside apartment in the converted warehouse along side the Aire - the one at the back of what is now the T & G offices and the New Penny. He came back looking totally astounded and informed us they had all been sold, and the building was still a shell at that time.Whats more he had been informed by the developers agent that the prices started at £80,000 for a single bedroom unit - this was over 10 years ago.
