Gladstone Street?

Hi. I am not from the Leeds area but I am wondering if there is a street called Gladstone Street, in the Holbeck area? My great-grandfather lived there as an infant before immigrating to Canada. Google Maps has not been very helpful. I believe it might've been off Cemetery Road? My great-grandfather and his parents lived at 7 Gladstone Street, and his paternal grandparents lived at 5 Gladstone Street, and later 1 Gladstone Street.

It was close to Green Lane in Armley/New Wortley: https://maps.nls.uk/view/125642455#zoom ... &layers=BT. It's now roughly near Clyde Chase and Clyde Walk: https://goo.gl/maps/3SEW7JT7Co8KsTTr7. A lot of houses in the area were demolished as part of slum clearance in the 60s and 70s. The photos on Leodis were taken in 1959. They were probably taken by the city engineering department to survey the area. The houses were probably perfectly fine but Leeds council policy at the time was to demolish first and ask questions later.

There was a Gladstone Street near to Cemetery Road, Holbeck (1914 map).

I had to do a double-take on that map. I'd never have believed that the start of Cemetery Road hill was slighly east of due south despite living in Beeston for nearly a quarter of a century but nearly a quarter of a century ago. I was also confused by the Malverns being on both sides of Cenetery Road as I always thought they were just the city centre side. Malvern Street is still there to the west as is the Baptist Chapel (though it has been re-purposed) https://goo.gl/maps/4hXTCUXfHTjMY9m6A

The unamed road running diagonally across the top left corner is Elland Road and Little Town Lane still exists linking Cenetery Road to Elland Road south of the motorway.

Hi Daniel100 if you sign in to Leodis a photographic archive of Leeds you can buy photos of the streets you are interested in , I’ve lived in Leeds all my life most of it in the Beeston area until about 3 years ago and thought I don’t remember the name Gladstone looking at the map of the area I’m sure it’s where one of my school friends lived in the 1960s , We would sometimes go to her house after school to do homework, this of course before the’slum clearance’ of her house and mine which wasn’t too far away in Holbeck.

Another feature of the Leodis archive is that you can enrol then add comments on images that interest you, including requests for information. Obviously, it's a matter of luck whether somebody sees your query but there are features which help eg the regularly changing "Pot luck" selection.

Interesting, thank you! I will be sure to sign up. I have been looking into my great-grandfathers grandparents (William Albert Cluderay & Annie Elizabeth Cluderay (née Rusby) and they appear to move around a lot in the Holbeck area. I believe they previously lived at Ursula Street, and Malvern Place, along with other residences of which I have seen pictures of outside of Holbeck, stretching into the Horsforth area.
