That's very interesting sparky415 as a wild plum tree close to where I live has no plums on it this year (though having said that it is not in the best of health). It had an excellent crop a couple of years back but less good last year. Just in passing there seems to be a massive crop of apples this (and last) year. A wild apple tree near me has very crisp but bitterish apples (would be OK in a sugared pie).sparky415 wrote:I won't pick mine for a good while yet......not seen how manys about. It's been a bad year for the wild plums as we had a late frost. ....

Re: Sloe berries
I have a suspicion Leodian may be tee-total so perhaps apple and blackberry pie might be more in order. Apologies if I'm off the mark Leo.j.c.d. wrote: Collect 'em, including windfall, add some yeast and make yourself some lovely cider

Not quite teetotal as I do have a very occasional sherry. I've never liked the taste of beer so in my younger age, in ye olde days of yore, when I went on pub crawl I would drink halfs of shandy not the pints of beer the other lads did. At that time, to paraphrase Shakespeare and alter the actual meaning of the phrase, 'Yon Leo had a lean and hungry look". Not the same nowadays though!

As for sloeberries I've noticed that a couple of what I think are wild sloe bearing shrubs near where I live have a good crop of large berries on them.
