If the Spammers can post without being a member surely the moderators can remove this rubbish just as quickly, even a word from them concerning this would be reassuring .

I get the feeling that some dissatisfied person is somehow deliberately targeting the site to make it off-putting or unusable. Don't let them win! Ignore them, don't give them the oxygen of publicity, don't comment further and don't look at the pages now that we are aware that this is ongoing.

Spam removed. Really this just illustrates the excellent job that the mods usually do! cnosni is on holiday this week and left it in my hands - and just look what happens :)

Jim - that's very unlikely, it's just the same spamming networks that have been targetting the site for months. It's because the new site is built on industry-standard software, and any time a vulnerability is exposed there are legions of spammers out there waiting to take advantage.

I will update the anti-spam measures which I recently changed due to a complaint from a new member. The question was too obscure before, but clearly now it's too easy and spambots can guess the answer.

Relief at last as the multitude of spam has been removed. I hope there is some way it can be controlled in future before spam even gets posted.

Edit added immediately. Ooops, dsco's post came in as I posted!

PS. Spambots I hate, but spam fritters I love! :)

I don't think it's anything personal. I've modded other forums that use the same software and stopping spammers wanting to flog counterfeit shoes and sunglasses has always been a problem. There are ways to make it more difficult but it's tricky finding the balance between keeping out the spammers and allowing genuine people to register and post.

Incidentally, if you want another mod, I'll be happy to do it.

@mhoulden:

Probably best to email Duncan direct. ask@tyrell.mobi

He responded very quickly to the SPAM warning
