Stanks Hall Farm

Post by leedsman »

Ive seen this mentioned a few times on here but not much.
The council are very much intent on killing this place and its absolutely criminal, they have plans drawn up to have houses built on the site cos we all know we need more houses building, abit on this place -

It is in a currently semi-derelict condition on the hill opposite the White Rose Centre, and hundreds of people must pass it every day without seeing it behind the tree cover.

Stank Old Hall with its rare chimney garderobe dates back to the 13th century and was originally a Royal Hunting Lodge, attached to the Royal Hunting Park which connected Beeston with Rothwell Castle and was protected by palisades and earthwork banks. These earthwork banks were considered by the 13th century monks concerned with the farmland at Beeston to be ‘henges’ or prehistoric, and part of one may remain today adjacent to Dewsbury Road, and currently up for sale as a building plot for four houses.

Stank New Hall (which has unfortunately been damaged by recent arson) was built in the late 16th century, and Stank Hall Barn is a 15th century timber framed construct. For some of us this site sums up the spirit of Yorkshire. It has stood strong for centuries of occupation, has a terrific history with some wonderful people living there through the recent decades of use as a farm and then as social housing, and despite neglect for the past 20 years is too bloody-minded to fall down.

Its such a shame we have such a scumbag council who bow down to the capitalist overlords and pillage our lands to make a quick bit of cash, this place needs more publicity and more importantly needs saving, if you actually care about our heritage you will make yourself heard in regards to stanks hall.(edited by cnosni)

Please anyone who can help please do - there is a friends group called friends of stanks hall barn and are doing the best they can but are really powerless to these leeds city council scumbags and need as much help as they can

Hello leedsman. Welcome to Secret Leeds.

I note your passion and enthusiasm for a Stank Hall barn,it's a similar level of passion that I have to the site and I have a similar sense of indignation for the fate of this and other such sites in and around Leeds.

I have, however, had need to edit your post with regards allegations made by yourself with regards the site.

Such allegations are serious and probably made without clear evidence and as such are potentially inflammatory.

The last thing that Secret Leeds needs is legal action from the council with regards such allegations and I would hope that if you continue to keep us up to date/discuss the issue of the site that you would kindly bare in mind a request to not to repeat such allegations or those of a similar nature without absolute evidence, evidence which if exists such be passed onto the Police.

Many thanks

Around there on Dewsbury Road opposite what was the Woodman Pub used to be a sort of valley until the council took it over and used it a landfill site. now it looks green and pleasant again but there must be all sorts of horrors underneath as rubbish collections were dumped a bit more cavalier than they are now ,if houses are built on there I don't think would want to own one.

Sadley, when money is at stake, most people, and LCC for that matter, will side with money. IMO it's only a matter of time before they build on the Golf course too. LCC has been hiking up the rent on there for many years now.....obviously there's an ulterior motive.
Come on Leeds United!

they are closing the golf course at the top if not already closed and like you say more houses will be built on there soon enough. i understand you cant keep every bit of old which after a while just becomes hoarding but its disgusting how these animals are so happy to destroy real heritage just to turn a quick profit,
ive lived in leeds all my life and im starting to really despise the place more and more every day because of the scum who run it who dont even live in the areas they destroy but come to them and tell us they know how we feel and will sort it out but then when they get back to their mates laugh at how we cannot do a thing short of , well i wont say what i would like to do to them as it would make the saw films look very very tame indeed!
