Merrion Centre

,I had my wedding reception in Chaplins. Complete with doormen. That was in 1989. I worked behind the bar there for a couple of weeks while 1 of the barstaff was on holiday. Used to go to Woosters alot too. Then either to TC's or Confetti's. There was the Phonographic in the middle somewhere. . I think? . . . . . , Post

No more so than the rest of us wiggy, some staements on here really make me think if I remember properly or not too, but I'm sure Cinderella Rockerfellas was purpose built with Tiffanies in the old Mecca place inside.

I don't think Rockingham Street is under the Merrion Centre. I think this is.

In the mid 80's "Ritzy's" was above where Stick or Twist is now, where the casino is, with an entrance over to the right. To the left there was a smaller venue called Central Park which although joined to Ritzy had an entrance stairway over to the left. It used to host an alternative night on the Sunday, full of goths, where I remember you could get 2 bottles of Holsten Pilsener for £1. (I may have pictures) The ground floor wasn't a venue at that point. I have a vague feeling it was offices belonging to Leeds Poly. (?)Tiffanys was upstairs in the Merrion and Le Phonographique entrance was under the staircase near the south entrance.

Some one posted a pic on here with a bus emerging from the merion centre before it was convered over fully. I've tried searching for it for ages now but have given up. Rockingham Street used to go from the top of Belgrave street straight over through the merrion centre to Woodhouse Lane (see old maps), which would make it meet with Rossington street rougly on the other side. The busses I seem to think went through the merrion centre near Morrisions before this was built and the area where the clock thing is now was covered over - any ideas???

Go to the library LS1.. Look in the transport section and dig out Jim Sopers new book. Leeds transport 195?-1974 it's got that picture in there. The book is HUGE... It's full of cracking pics. Highly recomended mate

Nice one Roundhegian. Isn't there a late 60's early 70's picture of it when the Merrion was built as well?
