Re: Leeds Station southern entrance plans approved
I hope these two photos are still of interest. The first was taken at 12:08 on February 17 2015 which means that those posted by uncle mick were taken on February 18 (unless there was a lot of work done in the afternoon of February 17!). Note the girder that was being hoisted up. I took the second today (Feb 19 2015). It shows two men working high up on their bendy cranes which was interesting to watch them working those cranes while I was around. Note also the removed panelling high to the right, though I could not work out what is going on there.

Thanks for keeping the pictures up to date, Leo, I don't look around town as often as I ought and I would have missed this otherwise.

These are 3 photos that I took at the site on February 26 2015 (as usual they have been reduced in size and quality so as not to be too large a file). More work has recently been done, such as the fixing of some vertical beams in the front of the structure. The first photo shows a direct view from the footbridge over the River Aire, the second shows a view from the side of the river and the third is a close-up from a full-on side view. The framework from that angle looks particularly complicated!
Access on the footway over the river inside the Dark Arches is now open again but the LSSE work there can barely be seen due to hoardings (some arches have been converted into posh looking LSSE site offices!).

Coming on nicely. Planning application for old Wasabi unit for a cafe bar, called Archie's.
Let's hope the new entrance brings the dark arches back to life! it would be great if it could be transformed into something akin to the under croft at St Pancras.

I wonder what the poor souls who've bought the nice adjacent flats think to it ?? Mind yuo, there's nothing wrong at all with the concept of a south entrance to the Station, but it really is obtrusive in the form that's going ahead. As a laymanthough I can't suggest anything that could have been different for this much needed facility.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?
