Gracious me, a blast from my past. They were neighbours of Mum's and their son Peter and I were best friends despite he being 4 yrs older than me, almost felt like brothers. Sadly Peter passed away when he was just 19, a result ultimately, of have contracted polio as a very young child. For a couple of years I helped out there each Saturday. Have an enduring memory of Albert next door and his Dad sitting nearby all day. We visited last year and I found it hard to place things it has changed so much (though the fish was still very much in evidence and actually looked no different!j.c.d. wrote:chameleon wrote:There is a wonderful and truly respectful greengrocer on the top row who I visit on my (now rare) visits. Close by was another stall which is no more, and no great loss. The response I got for simply stating the variety of apples I had selected and bagged was unbelievable. I duly suggested that he place them in a pyramid shape on his well used stool and slowly sat on them until they had all disappeared. No more of my business went there - little surprise he went under.
Morley market - those dates, not sure when he retired, but did you know Ronnie Connell?
Yes I knew Ronnie, his stall was a couple of shops away from mine. at that time Morley Market was less than half its present size and yet it had six greengrocers shops all thriving.
