Spencers is about to re open as a Head of Steam real ale pub, owned by Camerons.
http://www.bqlive.co.uk/2014/10/27/pub- ... -entrance/
This end of town is a real ale/quality brewed paradise with the Brewery Tap, Bundobust (Coriander lager is very good as is their Spicy bitter), Prince of Wales and Tapped all within a 2 minute walk of each other.
Shame about the new Black Prince though, one real ale and a clientele that Wetherspoons would turn their nose up at.

There are some great real ale pubs in that part of town - you didn't mention the Scabby Taps! And not too far away is the excellent The Hop, which is always worth a visit.

How remiss not to mention the Taps, my apology.raveydavey wrote:There are some great real ale pubs in that part of town - you didn't mention the Scabby Taps! And not too far away is the excellent The Hop, which is always worth a visit.
I'd like to see Taylors open up in this end of town and i would love to see Saltaire Breweries open their own pub, with Leeds being a a first

The list goes on doesn't it?
I agree about a Saltaire Brewery pub being a great addition to the area - Saltaire Blonde is a very fine pint indeed!

Been there once, far too expensive for what it was. One beer was £8 (we think it should have been served as a half) but the barmaid lacked any knowledge and when challenged just shrugged. Poor.cnosni wrote:Friends of Ham
Spencers reopening is interesting. Ive always like the layour, but hated the clientele and beer so never visit. Will have to try it.

If you are including the Hop then if you walk past the Queens Hotel front and go down Whitehall you will find the White Cloth gallery who usually have at least 2 and sometimes 3 real ales on as well as bottle conditioned stuf. There is also the West Riding near the Majestic whic has real ale although usually just Black Seep and leeds brewery stuff.A bonanaza of stuff as said.
incidentally The Griffin in the snug to the right as you go in has a large old map of Leeds on the wall to peruse!

Beer £8. a pint. Think I would need smelling salts served. The times I spent drinking in the town centre, having about 6 pints and then going dancing would be completely a no no nowadays. I guess the present day ale is that much stronger.
