Has anyone else heard the noise this evening? It is hard to describe but sounds almost metallic in nature like heavy machinery crossed with somebody blowing into the top of a bottle. Loud enough to be heard indoors with the windows shut. Heard it at 9.00pm and at 2.00am. Plain weird. I am not going mad as my wife can also hear it!

Could it be a ghostly echo from Kirkstall Forge? Well, it's getting towards Halloween isn't it.

I hear some appauling noises sometimes very late at night coming from the Harrogate line railway when they send along track maintenance machines. I've heard all manner of squealing, rattling and thumping sounds along with all kinds of weird lights and sparks flying. However this usually occurs after the public trains services have finished. Also there are long and slow moving freight trains which travel along the line in the early hours of the morning. Some move so slowly it would be quite possible to hop on as they are moving like you see the hobos in America do (not that I'd try doing it, or even recommend it!).
