I wonder if anyone knows any history of Trinity House (TH) that is mostly on Commercial Street but with a little bit on what remains of Trinity Street? I have done a search of SL and did not readily find anything directly about TH. To my surprise though there were only 2 results on a search of the Leodis website. One was an image of Commercial Street taken on December 21 1922 in which TH appears in the rear and is noted as being on the corner of Trinity Street. The other image was an undated colour-tinted postcard of Boar Lane which is said to show TH but, unless TH has moved since whenever that view was taken, I have my doubts that it is TH. The Leodis link to the postcard is http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 16_171614I have googled TH but, unless I work through hundreds of pages, I did not readily find any history. It does look an interesting building. I have put a photo that I took of the TH in Trinity Street on September 14 2011.PS. When using the Leodis website an advert came up for a major shopping chain. I thought it would simply go after a few seconds but it just kept on and on before I clicked to remove it. I cannot recall seeing adverts on Leodis before so I wonder if it is now going to rely on them for funds?

Leodis was and as far as I am aware still is, funded from a Lottery grant.Regularly on the site (including today) and never experienced this. I supect it may be worth you scanning for Malware and checking your Firewall Leodian - sounds potentialy ominous if it is not genuinely

I took this photo on September 14 2011. It shows the fire doors of Trinity House in the bit that currently remains of Trinity Street off Commercial Street. It's not the most exciting photo I admit, but not without merit.

My virus, firewall and other checks are up to date and running continuously but I have still checked and there is no problem. I have just tried Leodis and the advert did not appear, so it seems it may have been a one-off event. Strange though that it came up, but as it was for a major company (Sainsbury's) I feel confident all is well (it was advertising its foods).

The Leodis picture of Boar Lane isn’t Trinity Chambers. Trinity Chambers, which was on Boar Lane, was at the junction of Trinity Street & Boar Lane and would have been where the C&A building was ie to the left of the church as viewed from Boar Lane. As to the building on Commercial Street, none of the Trade Directories specifically record “Trinity House” but that isn’t unusual. It seems that the ground floor was for many years Albert Fasnacht’s hairdressers. This was later Lotus & Delta shoe shop. The only other records I can find of any use of the upper floors are; Macdonnalds, an artificial teeth manufacturer [dentures] – and I‘m not altogether certain about that one, and the local offices of William Younger’s the brewers.

Thanks Liits. That is very interesting. I shall have to look more into Trinity House. In view of the false teeth maker perhaps that should be "I shall have to get my teeth into Trinity House"! I may try to get a photo of the frontage of Trinity House on Commercial Street.

I think I'm correct in saying that in the 50's/60's it was a very high class ladies dress shop the "Misses Walker", the French spelling of Misses. This was our favourite dinnertime lounging corner prior to going back into work at the next building down the Yorkshire Evening News.

This was our favourite dinnertime lounging corner prior to going back into work at the next building down the Yorkshire Evening News. I took my mum back here to Lands Lane/Commercial Street on 27/09/14, to see where she used to work. She can confirm that Trinity House is not where The Misses Walker were. They were in the building opposite and they were a hairdressing business, not a ladies dress shop.My mum started worked there aged 17, in 1948, to do her hair dressing apprenticeship and she left in 1951. She worked for May and Lillian Walker, the Misses Walker Ltd, who were the hair dressers at the corner of Lands Lane and Commercial Street. The entrance was through the ornate door to the right of the photograph shown and was based on the third floor. There was a space downstairs where she was able to leave and lock her bicycle (having cycled each day from Alwoodley). When the sisters eventually retired, the business was taken over by John Littlewood.https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.79742 ... The building I was referring to was not the one pictured in your thread but the one at the very start of the thread on the corner of Commercial Street and Trinity Street. Whilst i might be mistaken regarding its name "Misses Walker", when I worked at the YEN it certainly was a high class ladies dress shop.

Leodis has a 'Madame Darling' dress shop in Trinity House back in 1922 but I suppose it could still have been there years later?http://www.leodis.org/display.aspx?reso ... 8980Leodis also lists the Misses Walker as hairdressers at Roundhay. I also attach an advert for the Misses Walker from www.pictorialgems.com. At that time they were on Commercial Street. In the 1980s my friend worked at the hairdresser whose entrance opposite the rear door of M&S and up the stairs, presumably in the rear upper of Trinity House. I believe it was TH Whiteley & Daughters, who are listed in their previous premises on New Briggate, again on Leodis. The 'and Daughters' always struck me as odd.
