This is a link to the online version of the report in the YEP website:- http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -1-6554471 This is the pub that the article says is the inspiration for the redevelopment of The Griffin:http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/about/hi ... fair/"Best Fish & Chips in Mayfair", apparently....Leeds might give them a tougher challenge. Its getting a good end of town fro real ale, and with the new High Court development by Leeds Brewery going ahead next to the parish church complementing the Palace, Duck and Crowd of Favours at the other end of town then we are getting a great range of real ale houses across town.Lets hope the Crown and Fleece will reopen as a real ale palace.

Seeing some workmen having a break outside I had a nice chat with them. They said that the work is not going on at the upper floors of what was the Griffin Hotel. I also mentioned the claims/urban legend that there is a tunnel going underneath at least what was Bar Censsa that leads to the Queens Hotel. They had not heard of this but would look out for one (they may of course have just been polite to me! ). I'm pretty sure that someone mentioned the upper floors of the Griffin are now part of the Comfort Hotel that is accessed from Bishopgate Street. That's why the lights are on sometimes in the upper floors that you can see from Boar Lane. http://leeds-list.com/out-and-about/the ... leeds-bar/
