Thats your alternative then? Dont build it and wait 20 years before doing anything? I was being sarcastic about the development time for hs2. Like the new market hall and the temporary shed that is about to be refurbished. Apologies I misinterpreted your post completely. We need smileys on this site soon (-;

There is a report on page 9 of the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) today (August 11 2014) about the work at the River Aire at what will be the southern entrance to Leeds Station. The YEP states the work is "Due for completion in spring next year". This is a link to the online version of the YEP report:- http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 1-6777630I notice in the report that it states work has been slowed at times by the weather and that "Other headaches have included high water levels and debris buried in the river bed". The high water level surprised me as the river seems to have been running lower than normal most of time recently. The report has a photo which can be compared with this a bit wider field-of-view one that I took today (before I knew of the YEP report!). The river was running fast, deeper and very brown today following the recent rain. It has been so clear to very recently that fish could easily be seen where the river comes out at the Dark Arches.

I took this photo on August 18 2014. It shows that work has gone on since the photo I took on July 2nd (posted to page 2 on 02-Jul-2014 20:07:09) and that some structure is now beginning to appear.

This was the scene when I took this photo on September 2 2014. Though there seems to be little obvious structural change since the photo I took on August 18 2014 there will still be work going on beneath the water surface as a diver went under while I was there. I wonder how deep the river is there as the river bed under the Dark Arches and where it comes out is stone-lined and is readily seen, so it is not deep (at least under normal flow). I wonder just how far the river bed is stone-lined before it becomes a natural bed beyond the Dark Arches?PS. The grey feature apparently on the arch column is an illusion due to the camera angle. It is in fact well in front of the arch and is part of the chain of the out-of-shot tall crane to the right.

I think it was posted on another thread a long while ago that the Aire is typically around 6 to 8 ft deep through the city centre under normal conditions. Obviously that might vary, especially here where it leaves a man made channel...

Thanks for that information raveydavey. I wonder just how far the river bed is stone lined once the river comes out at the Dark Arches? I assume that the stones gradually dip down so that there is not a sudden drop in water depth.
