More worrying news:http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -4897127So, the plan is to merge Cookridge and Moortown and build a new fire station 'at Weetwood'. Close Garforth and Rothwell and build a new station 'at Swillington' - which is pretty much the middle of nowhere on a map of the local population, but is roughly equidistant between the two existing fire stations. And no news yet where the replacement for the merged Hunslet and Morley fire station will be, but using similar 'stick a pin in the map' planning, I reckon it will be somewhere around the White Rose Centre.Just look at a map of Leeds and the worryingly large gaps this will leave between fire stations - and lets not forget that the available number of fire engines is also being scaled back too. People will die as a result of these cuts.

Plans put in for the new "Killingbeck Fire Station" (partially on Green Belt land too!)http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 5521525And the plans themselves:http://snipurl.com/26o336oA quick flick through the documents seems to suggest that the planning officer at the council recommends that the scheme be rejected "at this time" if you look at the 'Highways' documents

Cheers for that raveydavey. There is lots of interesting information in the plans link. In the flood risk section it states "A petrol filling station stood on the site prior to being demolished between 2003-2006. Aerial imagery shows the base of the former unit and associated hardstanding. To date the land has remained overgrown and dormant". I had completely forgotten about that petrol station!

To be honest, the more I look through these plans, the more concerns I have. For example, the plan to despatch the fire engines stright into a queue of traffic at the lights on the former Killingbeck Roundabout? Traffic queues there from early morning right through til 7 at night!

Here's a funny thing - I live near the doomed Stanks Fire Station, soon to be closed for various reasons, including apparently a very low number of call outs.Well, over the last week or so, the fire engine based there has never been busier in the decade or more I've lived here. It's been out numerous times a day, on blue lights and with siren blaring and at all hours. Which leads me to wonder why? Has cover already been reduced elsewhere? Are there suddenly lots more fires? More RTC's? More cats stuck in trees?

Thanks for the update - but now I'm really worried for all those cats that are clearly being left up trees...

It's the same with all these houses being built on greenbelt land .The local council and the local population object, the developer appeals and the Govt. overrules the local council and allows the development to go ahead!

Work has started clearing the former petrol station site next to Killingbeck police station, presumably for the new fire station. Its difficult to keep up with things as the local plans section of the YEP website hasn't been working for weeks, but I can only guess that work starting signifies they've managed to get around the access issues that saw planning initially refused?

Work has indeed started with a completion date of late 2015.
