The Inland Waterways of Elland Road

I first saw this photo a few months ago- taken of ER probably mid to late 60's, before the roof was put on the Kop and before the M621 was built. The intriguing thing is the winding river/canal where the M621 now is, and what looks like 1 or maybe 2 large 'lakes' off Lowfields Road.I've asked various Leeds fans who went to games in this era and no one knows what either the river or lakes are, nor do they remember them. This has now resurfaced on another LUFC forum and is again baffling people.Anyone know what the river and lakes are and what happened to them?[/URL]
