Passing by today (May 27 2014) at the area of what was a casino (Grosvenor Casino?) I noticed that the area off Street Lane and its frontage on Harrogate Road were fenced off and the car park was not accessible. The premises on Street Lane (with the exception of William Hills betting shop!) have been empty for some time. I wonder if anyone knows if there is any development planned for the area?

Planning application for "Change of use of ground floor of casino to provide additional floorspace for four adjacent units to be used for retail (use class A1), financial and professional services (use class A2) and cafe/restaurant (use class A3) uses" at https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/onlin ... P54JB17S00. There's a list of documents at http://plandocs.leeds.gov.uk/WAM/showCa ... 3/02378/FU.

My pal Danny had the Hairdressers in the car park you mention and has just moved out and as he had a lease which entitled him and his customers to have access to the his shop the car park could not be closed. now he has gone the builders can proceed. there are to be flats above and retail units below.

This is a photo that I took today (May 30 2014) of the Street Lane frontage at the old casino block. William Hill the betting shop still seemed to be open!

Passing by on a bus a few times recently I'd noticed that the roof of the old casino had been removed but I was surprised to see when passing by on a bus today that much (if not all) of the side away from Street Lane frontage seems to have been demolished. I had assumed that the building would be retained more or less as it was (renovated and repaired where needed) but much of it has already gone.

I thought (hope!) this photo of the area dated 21st March 1939 may be of interest. It is from the Leodis website (this is the link to the photo:- http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL)Edit just after posting. What I thought would show the photo has not worked. I've found that for it to work the "Image URL has to end on '.gif', '.jpg' or '.png' and that I apparently cannot simply add any of those after the FULL. My bad!
