Hey Best Egg, nice to hear from you!Regarding changing the site name, it's an interesting thought but no that isn't going to happen. What cnosni said, basically - this is SecretLeeds, it's a well established brand in the city and we would need a really good reason to change that.On the new website front, I've made a start on the required coding changes, should have that sorted this week. Then we can schedule the switchover, which may take some time, because we have to shut down the old site for a bit to transfer the data. I'd also like to coordinate a launch event of some kind, maybe a party to celebrate. I promise to pull my finger out and get on with it anyway!

Philld set up SL2 in order for members of the SL site to still keep in touch and was not set up as an imitation of SL. It was purely a site where if members of SL wished to still have contact and carry on postng until the SL site was back up and running they were able to do so.It saddens me to read comments on this Thread as apart from the in depth educational richness this site offers, another reason why I wanted to become a member of this site was due to its friendliness. Not one person on this Thread has thanked Philld for stepping in at a time when it was appreciated. A lot of SL members are on the SL2 site and maybe like me, when they see this Thread they just wonder why so much negativity has been generated. I for one thank Philld for the SL2 site and the fact he enabled "us" to keep in touch.

The title of this Thread is, "Any news on when the new Secret Leeds website is to come active" and the majority of comments are relating to FB!! How did that happen??

Great nickname! tilly wrote: This might not meet with approval from members but what do you think about calling the site Secret Leeds 1.After all it was the first site and it does make a point that both sites are different sites. Just a thought Hi tillyWell, it's a valid suggestion and worthy of consideration. This is the original Secret Leeds as you say. If I may make an analogy with the world of golf, The Open is the original Open, the British one. So it's referred to as The Open, and everyone knows which one they mean. All the others are distinguished by country, American Open, Australian Open etc. because [ahem] they are mere imitations. So based upon that I would say stick to Secret Leeds and let the imitations qualify their status 2/3 whatever. Completely agree this site should operate on its own merit and the other sites should aspire to the original. However im not so sure that in the world of FB domination that many users of the FB site are even aware of this ste or its benefits.Im not saying FB doesn't have its own merits but i would say it has its own crowd.Distinguishing between the two would be a good idea for those who are more interested in (seeking answers) rather than random info being thrust upon you IMO.

Thats true caron ive fallen foul to the wrong thread curse.I was just commenting on the current situation but its turning into a FB vs SL situation now. They should either co-exist and support each other OR operate on different terms its only a website after all.In other news ....... when is the new website going to become active ?

Carona - I've thanked Phill for his contributions numerous times, not least in this thread. He certainly helped to keep the community active whilst this site was down. Lots of other folk worked very hard to sort out the problem though, and they don't get any credit. No one is saying anything negative about FB or Phill or anything else, just that we're not packing up this site and going home.I wouldn't know what's in the FB group anyway cos I've been kicked out hehe As for the new site I'm working on it, it was my birthday at the weekend so I didn't get much done. I would hope that we'll launch in July at some time though.

I dont think anyone wont thank Phil for what he has done, however the FB site was only one facet of getting SL back up and running. There were many people and messages/ contacts made which didint get aired on the web.I think Phil took the FB comments personally, understandable as he set it up, but they were not aimed at him, there was no reason why anyone would have done so.They were aimed at FB as an entity itself. This thread may be viewed by some as having lost its yopic, but i disagree. It isnt really a thread in the SL mould, its not about Secret things in Leeds, its about teh site and its future.Posters have expressed their views on what they do and dont like and some may view this as weak moderating, i would view it more of allowing posters, such as yourself,to be able to say what they think in a reasonable way.

I would add to cnosni's comments here - I am perhaps the hardest mod when it comes to staying in the true ethos of SL and have redirected, quelled and simply removed threads which have transgressed, however it is a fine line to walk and sometimes we get it wrong, one way or the other!Sometimes though, a not entirely suited thread is left, at least for a while, if it does have a general use in terms of imparting information which could be useful, before finally closing it. Similarly, an apparently unsuited thread can so often result in a comment which magically generates a discussion on something entirely different - which could turn out to be quite enlightening. So, it can be swings and roundabouts and sometimes (as is easily the case without face to face contact) people can misunderstand remarks or take them personally. Usually with a gentle nudge, these differences between people are mitigated and everyone starts to understand each other as was intended. Sadly of course, as in everywhere in life, there will always be the odd one or two folk who can't or don't want to see 'the other side' and persist in awkwardness - but one way or another, these things are resolved.Let's all just get on with what we do best - reveal all things about LeedsEDIT: Wondering if it's time to close this thread and follow Polo;s suggestion for a new one in line with 'other news...... 'When is the new website going to become active ?'
